Guard Your Home Against Rodents and Bugs

Securing the perimeter of your home from pests is important any time of the year. Insecticides and rodenticides help reduce a pest problem when used correctly. Learn more about how proper perimeter pest control can guard your home from a range of infestations.

Perimeter Pest Control Prep

Using both liquid and dust insecticides around the perimeter of your home work together to provide the maximum protection against pests.

Apply the liquid around the perimeter of your home at least once every 90 days. Apply more frequently—up to once a month—if you have high pest populations on your property, or you live in an overly hot environment.

For both indoor and outdoor treatments, closely follow the product instructions to mix the liquid insecticide with water in a hand-pump sprayer. Wear protective clothing—like long-sleeves, goggles, and gloves—when mixing and spraying insecticide.

Where to Apply Perimeter Pest Control Products

The following locations are the most common entrance points for pests looking to get into your home. This is where you should focus pest control applications.

  • Three feet up the foundation wall of the structure
  • One foot area on the ground around the structure
  • Holes where cables, pipes, and wires enter the structure
  • Door and window frames
  • Vents and soffits
  • Any areas where pests are already active
  • Inside cabinets, under appliances, and in areas where items are stored—such as closets, garages, and attics
  • Rodent bait stations can also be placed around the exterior of your home—near every corner, front and back doors, and garage.

Make sure the bail stations are big enough to target the right pest. You can also place them on blocks to elevate bait above any possible water damage and help keep them in place. Check any bait stations regularly and replace as needed, especially in the spring and fall when rodents become more active.
